My Great Great Grandmother imigrated to the U.S. as a mail order bride. She was around 16. Her husband died within two years of their marriage and she then tried to return to her homeland. Her parents told her not to, as she had inherited land in the U.S. from her husband. She married the man she had hired to care for the farm and they created a life together.
